BELMOND HIRAM BINGHAM

Escape from the rush of the 21st Century with the Belmond Hiram Bingham, a transcendent train journey that transports you not only through the wonders of Peru, but takes you to an entirely different era.

Taking an incredible journey between Cusco and Machu Picchu, the Belmond Hiram Bingham is named after the explorer who rediscovered the Inca citadel in 1911, and the train’s exquisite interiors pay exceptional homage to that time. The Pullman-style carriages boast polished wood and antique fittings, while old-fashioned charm and Peruvian hospitality will ensure you feel perfectly pampered on the leisurely voyage.

You’ll be met with a welcome cocktail whilst boarding, followed by a delicious brunch and a gourmet lunch, seeing you travel in unrivalled, truly luxurious style. With the trip lasting roughly three and a half hours in each direction, it’s the perfect opportunity to sit back and marvel at your surroundings.

While the luxury and comfort of the exquisite train is important, this trip is about so much more than the journey. Take a walk to the train’s Observation Car and enjoy the scenery as you traverse the sacred Valley of the Incas, stretching from Ollantaytambo to Písac along the rolling Urubamba River (the Sacred River). Take in vast mountains and valleys, occupied by roaming llamas, with a Pisco Sour in hand.

Setting eyes on Machu Picchu for the first time is nothing short of breathtaking. As you arrive, you’ll be met by a personal guide who will provide a tailor-made tour around the magnificent, ancient site. After exploring you’ll take a perhaps less traditional, but infinitely magical, afternoon tea at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, situated at Machu Picchu’s gates.

On your return journey, savour the delectable four-course, Andean-inspired menu made from fresh local produce from the Sacred Valley, before seeing the valley in a different light as the day draws to a close. Dance with traditional South American musicians, swap tales with fellow passengers, and soak up as much of the spirit as you can.

If the trip is too brief to take in the endless beauty of your surroundings, longer adventures are on offer, with stays in Lima, Cusco and the Sacred Valley. Whichever route you take, this is set to be a life-changing experience.
